Age Discrimination Law to Come into Force

By Alison White
The new anti-age discrimination law which will come into force in October will help staff retention and improve labour market choice according to some employers. However, the small employers are a lot less keen on the changes, as they worry about rising recruitment costs. The new legislation requires employers to review all their employment practices to ensure they are based on skills and competencies, not age.

The new law will also have an impact on the job adverts. Words and phrases that used to be the key words in the old adverts may be considered ageist so the employers should worry about this too.

When taking a decision no matter if on recruitment, retention or training, the employers must leave the age out of it. Beside the advert text, the application forms must be carefully reviewed by the companies so they can avoid opening to legal action under new laws.

There are companies that are already applying the new requirements and took out the age from their recruitment application forms. This is the case of Asda. Supermarket Asda removed the requirement for job applicants to tell them their age. Asda's move goes beyond the terms of the new age rules but it could well be a sign of things to come.

The idea of the new law is not to forbid employers to know the age of the applicants but to avoid taking the age in consideration in the decision process about hiring that person.
Stephen Morrall, a partner at law firm Middleton Potts offers the solution: "personnel departments will ask job applicants to fill out a separate form outlining their race and age, this form will be kept on file but not given to the person in the organisation making the decision on who to employ."

If that for companies like Asda the coming into force of the new law means doing business as usual as they have a history of employing older workers, there are other companies that are worried about this moment. This is the case of the firms that market themselves to a young or old audience and want to employ people who reflect their customer base.

But there are solutions for these cases offered by the new law itself. There is a get-out clause for some industries and employers can still discriminate if they can show that being a certain age is a genuine occupational requirement. It is considered a genuine occupational requirement that a firefighter shouldn’t be older than 55 years old as he or she has to be physically fit enough to pull people from burning buildings but it won't be acceptable for media firms to use the genuine occupational requirement clause to refuse employment or fail to promote people over the age of 50.

The language of the job adverts should exclude specifying the age but other words which are associated with age such as energetic may also be problematic. Ms. Margaret Thirlway, head of employment law at London-based SA Law, explains that the meaning of the law is that "The use of an age-loaded word like energetic may not itself lead to a tribunal, but when combined with a pattern of action, such as denying older workers training, then it might lead to a claim".

What is the Law of Attraction and How Does It Work?

By Sylvia Riley
What is the law of attraction and how does the law of attraction work? The law of attraction is the principle by which you attract into your life that which is in vibrational alignment with your consciousness; your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and attitudes.

As quantum physics now proves, reality is comprised of wavelengths of energy that respond directly to your thoughts. You are the creator of your experience whether you are conscious of it or not.

If you've watched ‘The Secret' movie, then you'll already know a little about the law of attraction. The law of attraction is the power of like attracts like, and the means by which you materialize into your life that which you focus upon and are in energetic alignment with.

The most effective way to use the law of attraction is to experience the outcome you desire mentally and emotionally NOW, using your imagination to put yourself in the picture of this goal fullfilled. Experience what it's like to have already achieved your heart's desire with belief and certainty and you will manifest it into your life.

The law of attraction is an absolute. It does not discriminate, it simply is. This means it can work both for and against you depending on the thought/feeling vibrations you emit.

To attract what you want into your life you need to align our heart and mind to the outcome of your desire - all the juicy positive thoughts and feelings of your dream come true which palpably resonate and act as a magnet to your goals.

In addition to visualizing and imagining the outcome of your goal in the present, below are some insights for engaging the law of attraction fully in your favour.

Gratitude and Appreciation

Being grateful for what you already have attracts more of it into your life. Gratitude opens your heart and creates space for more. Gratitude is the sweet song of appreciation and is synonymous with abundance. When you appreciate something you focus on it lovingly which makes it grow and expand.

Desire versus Need

There is a difference between desire and need or desperation. Need and desperation are synonymous with feelings of lack and the absence of what you want hence will repel your desired goal and perpetuate your not having it. Desire, however, is a positive generating emotion. It fuels your imagination, expectation and all the positive feelings associated with your goal so integral to successfully attracting it. Be passionate about your outcome yet remain light-hearted and unattached to ensure you don't become needy or dependent on it.

Outcomes Versus Hows

Focus on the outcome you desire and not how you're going to get there. Asking yourself ‘how' breeds doubt and limits your imagination and the vistas of your horizons. Let the universe work out the hows for you. From its vantage point of boundless possibilities this is a fun and easy task.

Open to Receive

You are a co-creator with the source of life, whatever name you hold for such, that ever conspires in your favour and will perform any amount of miracles and magic for the attainment of your desires. Trust in the gifts and offerings that will come your way when you begin to work with the law of attraction. Seed your intentions with your desire and imagination and be open and willing to receive their fruits in your world. The more you recognise that you are eternally connected to an all-loving infinitely abundant source, the more you will allow in the gifts and synchronicities.

Align your Thoughts and Feelings

You want to mentally and emotionally become the future you that has already achieved your goal. This will align your vibration to that goal and engage the law of attraction for manifestation. For this you want your beliefs to support and be congruent with your goals. You also want to release and resolve any resistances around your goal, such as fears or feelings of undeserving.

Know you Deserve

You deserve simply by being alive! You deserve all your heart's desires and there is nothing the universe wants more than for you to attain them. If you lack feelings of deserving you will repel or sabotage your success. Recognize your inherent innocence and worth and forgive yourself for failings or mistakes. Release any negative beliefs or self-concepts that suggest anything other than your innocence.

Take Inspired Action

It is important to act on synchronicities and opportunities that will show up when you engage the law of attraction. These serve as stepping stones to take you to your visions, dreams and goals and play an important part in the overall ‘bigger picture' of your manifesting process. Even seemingly unrelated incidences and encounters can end up having great significance further down the line so be open to new possibilities and act on what comes your way.

Be Persistent

Engaging the law of attraction involves harnessing the power of your mind and emotions and creating a new approach to your life and the way you think and feel for the attainment of your desires. This may take practise. If you don't manifest immediate results and your goal does not materialize instantly before your eyes, don't give up. Work at refining your tools of attraction, your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and attitudes, your imagination, desire, and connection to the future you desire. What first shows up may be the stepping stones that will take you to your goal, so have humility and faith and keep visualizing your outcome. Where there's vision, there's a way.

Love Love Love

The more you love and value yourself and others, the brighter realities you will attract, the more effortless your success will become, and the more elegantly you will manifest your desires. Love is the highest vibration. It heals and purifies, elevates and expands. It is your number one ally for harnessing the law of attraction in your favour.

LAW OF ATTRACTION - BREAKING DOWN THE 3-STEP CREATIVE PROCESS

By Steve Freedman
For most - if not all - of us, our path in life requires continual adjustment. There are things we want but don't have. There are things we have but don't want. And there are things we have that would be fine with a little alteration. For some, this process of course correction is natural and flowing. But for many of us, we grow impatient and/or discouraged.

Compounding our discomfort, law of attraction says that we attract into our lives more of what we focus on. When we focus on something we want, we attract more of that thing or condition. If we focus on a condition or thing we don't want - a problem - we attract more of THAT thing or condition.

Unwanted situations will always come up whether we like it or not. The good news is that those things and conditions which are not to our liking are the birth of all creation. How would we ever know what we do want without the contrast of what we do not?

THE 3-STEP PROCESS

As humans in an attraction-based universe, we live in an endless, looping, 3-part creative cycle. A thing or condition we want to be different gives birth to a preference, the new preference then exists in our consciousness where it did not before, and finally we receive the new thing or allow the new condition into our experience.

When we've identified what we don't want which happens constantly (step one), step two begins. We become aware of what we do want. We begin to notice things. If in step one we had the thought, "I want or need more money," we might now begin to notice other people with money or things that cost money. What we now desire exists as a concept in our consciousness, but we don't have it yet in our experience. How we feel about this new desire is our most valuable clue about how we are doing with step three. The better and more optimistic we feel, the better we are doing.

Step three is where the artistry of law of attraction really comes into play. This is where we receive the manifestation of what we've so far only summoned into our consciousness with the first two steps. Doing this takes allowing. By allowing, I mean the releasing of resistance.

RELEASING RESISTANCE

Even though it may not feel like we are resisting what we want, we are. For even in resisting the circumstance that we want to change, that same resistance is at work preventing us from receiving the thing we do want. Resistance is energy. When we focus in a resistant way, that energy is present in all areas for us.

Learning to release resistance can at first be counter-intuitive. We cannot release resistance directly. Attention given to anything, whether our intention is to get rid of the thing or summon it, causes MORE of that thing in our experience. To truly release resistance to a circumstance is a function of allowing the circumstance to exist and putting our focus on how we want things to be instead. However, there is a difference between focusing on how we want something to be and focusing on that it is not that way yet. How we feel about something is our indicator of allowance or resistance. The better it feels, the less resistance (and more allowance) is present.

Albert Einstein suggested that a problem cannot be solved at the same level of thinking at which it was created. Here I equate "problem" with "circumstance". After all, a circumstance we don't want is indeed a problem. If Einstein is correct, we need to think on a new level to change our circumstance. We need to focus our attention on thoughts that cause allowing energy or, at the very least, that don't cause resistance.

RECOGNIZING RESISTANCE

A thought that creates resistance is one in which we say something is one way and it should not be that way. When we reject something in its entirety as wrong or bad, we generally introduce resistance. "I'm having a terrible day," is usually a resistant thought. "Nothing is going the way I want," is another. With this kind of "problem" thinking, we leave ourselves very little room to affect change.

When we can summon the wherewithal to say, "My day isn't all bad," and think, write or talk about those aspects that ARE working, resistance is released. Perhaps what Einstein had in mind with his observation about the level of thinking it takes to solve a problem, is to think on that more subtle, component level. Focusing on those aspects of a circumstance that do work summons more workability.

The steps of noticing what we don't want in our lives and having what we'd prefer show up in our consciousness happen with no effort on our part. Becoming effective within the law of attraction is a function of getting good at step three. The more we can notice resistant thoughts that come up for us, and practice choosing thoughts that release that resistance, the better our results - and our experience - will be.

Career Options In Law

By Paul wilson
A lawyer helps people as well as businesses solve legal problems, understand rules and regulations, and ensure that the lives people lead are within the confines of law. Lawyers play many roles from arguing cases in court, to defending a person’s or nation’s right to freedom, and working with business houses handling their legal matters. This would mean knowing the laws of the land, being able to draft documents that will be upheld in any court, and advice people on their individual needs.

To be qualified in the field of law, a future lawyer needs to complete four years of undergraduate school followed by three years in a law school. Then a law graduate must complete the bar examination which tests the comprehensive knowledge of law. After this, the person is given a valid license to practice law. Tests are not just book knowledge; the person is screened for character as well as moral standards.

Law has many fields and it is important for you to understand the different options clearly. Once the examinations are cleared you can:

• Take up private practice which means practicing law on your own or being a part of a larger firm that has hundreds of attorneys. In private practice one can be a trail lawyer or a corporate attorney who handles contracts, wills, legal documents, memorandums, and other aspects of business and everyday life. Clients will seek advice on matters of divorce, marriage agreements, adoption, mergers, acquisitions, setting up of trusts, charity organizations, and more. A private practice lawyer can either be an expert in one field or be a “jack of several aspects of law.” Private practice can include aspects of income tax law, patent and trade mark law, oil and gas law, as well as labor law.

• Be a corporate lawyer and work in the legal department of a large business house. This would involve all legal aspects of running a business from mergers and acquisitions to employee rights, tax, balance sheets, financial aspects, and more.

• Be a lawyer in the government and work for federal agencies at the national or state level. This would of course involve things like public litigations, hearings of regulatory agencies, ordinances, policy making, and more. Many lawyers hold important offices in the government.

• Be a lawyer who defends public interests and consumer rights.

• Work in the judiciary and serve as a municipal, state or federal DA or judge. This would involve presiding over and arguing for criminal and civil court proceedings.

• Teach law to students. This would include law enforcement, business law, real estate law, and cyber law. One could also work as a law librarian, editor, and administrator.

• Be a lawyer in the military service. This would mean specializing in international laws and all aspects of security as well as human rights.

The options are numerous and once you are qualified you could choose a field that excites you and fulfills your ambitions.

What if the Quran says: Kill the gay, the Uncircumcised etc.

By Dr. Ibrahim Khalil
The law of the Ox (bull) in the Bible

Kill the Ox
Kill the Owner of the Ox
The price of the life of male or female slave is 12 ounces of silver

If an ox gores a man or a woman to death,
• The ox shall surely be stoned to death
• And its flesh shall not be eaten;
• But the owner of the ox shall go unpunished.

If, however, an ox was previously in the habit of goring and its owner has been warned, yet he does not confine it and it kills a man or a woman,
• The ox shall be stoned to death
• And its owner also shall be put to death.

If the ox gores a male or female slave,
• The owner shall give his or her master thirty shekels of silver,
• And the ox shall be stoned to death.

Thirty shekels of silver equal about 12 ounces or 342 grams in weight
This means that the price of the life of male or female slave is 12 ounces of silver!
=========
The three verses of the Law of the Ox in different versions of the Bible

Exodus 21:28, 29 and 32

New American Standard Bible

28] "If an ox gores a man or a woman to death, the ox shall surely be stoned and its flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall go unpunished.
29] "If, however, an ox was previously in the habit of goring and its owner has been warned, yet he does not confine it and it kills a man or a woman, the ox shall be stoned and its owner also shall be put to death.
32] "If the ox gores a male or female slave, the owner shall give his or her master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

King James Version

28] If an ox gores a man or a woman that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit.
29] But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.
32] If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

The law of the Ox (Bull) in the Noble Quran

There is no specific Law for the Ox and/or the Owner of the Ox in the Noble Quran!

However, the two verses 2:178-179 give a general Law in cases of murder

Verse 2:178 says:
O you who believe, the Law of retaliation is prescribed for you on equal terms, regarding the slain, both in the attributes [of the one slain] and in the action involved;
In the matter of the murdered ones;
a free man, is killed, for a free man,
and a slave for a slave,
and a female for a female
a life for a life
The freeman for the freeman, a freeman who premeditatedly kills another freeman And the slave for the slave, a slave who premeditatedly kills another,
And the female for the female, a female who premeditatedly kills another
A life for a life, this is the Law
And for him who is forgiven somewhat by his brother,
Whoever forgives the killing and takes instead blood money,
Allah commands the person who asks for blood money to claim this money according to practiced usage: three years if it is full blood money, two years if it is half of the blood money, or one year if it is a third (and payment unto him)
The person who is required to pay blood money is commanded to give the custodians of the murdered person what is due to them (in kindness) without the need to go to court or making it difficult for them.
This pardon is alleviation, appeasement and a mercy from your Lord towards the killer such that he is not killed.
He who transgresses after this, after taking the blood money and kills the murderer will have a painful doom; he shall be killed and will not be forgiven or allowed to pay blood money.
And verse 2:179 says:
And there is a life for you in the law of retaliation
a continuation of existence and a lesson,
O men of understanding, those who possess sound minds among people,
that you may ward off (evil))
that you may ward off killing one another for fear of retaliation

Chapter 2: AL-BAQARA 178 and 179

﴿178﴾ o ye who believe! the law of retaliation (equality) is prescribed to you in cases of murder: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the woman for the woman. but if any remissions are made by the brother of the slain, then grant any reasonable demand, and compensate him with handsome gratitude, this is a concession and a mercy from your lord. after this whoever exceeds the limits shall be in grave penalty.
﴿179﴾ in the law of retaliation (equality) there is (saving of) life to you, o ye men of understanding; that ye may restrain yourselves.

----------------------------------------------------
What if the Quran was the Book which commands to kill 1) the Uncircumcised, 2) who curses his parents, 3) the gay, 4) the Zoosexual and the Beast, 5) who works in the Sabbath! 6) Your brother, your son, etc. if they try to turn you away from the LORD and 7) all who live in that town, 8) the prophet and 9) all the Midianites, men, women and boys and 10) the Ox, and the owner. What if the Quran says that the Price of the Life of a human being is 12 Ounces of Silver?
What the Western Media would have said? What names they have given the Quran in such case?
=========

Back to the main issue of my series of articles; this is my question to you smart readers: "Is the Quran quoted from the Bible?"
