How The Ghillie Suit Helps In Law Enforcement

You may have heard that a ghillie suit is an important tool in hunting, in paintball games and even in military operations. However, you may wonder how these suits can be used by local law enforcement. First consider the advantages of the ghillie suit in general.

The human form is one of the most easily recognized shapes in nature, and among any species. If animals can readily identify human beings, then it must be far easier for humans to spot one of their own. This is why throughout history, snipers and other soldiers have been trained to look for color and contour when they are looking for enemies. Obviously, a man’s appearance in the brush or in a similar terrain would stand out. The ghillie suit hides the soldier’s appearance by breaking up the shooter’s outline, as well as hiding straight lines and blending in the colors to the background. When used correctly snipers can hide themselves anywhere, in the woods, in a desert field or even in a backyard.

Law enforcement officers may need ghillie suits for similar reasons as military soldiers. If an armed criminal is hiding in the jungle and is known to be dangerous then a police sniper may have to shoot him non-fatally to eliminate the threat. Law enforcement officers have their choice of choosing ghillie suits for desert backgrounds, mossy backgrounds, woods backgrounds and other natural environments.

Police may be required to get dangerously close to shooters in some situations. A random shooter would spot a SWAT team member coming from yards away. In that case, it’s far too late. Using a ghillie suit, a law enforcement officer can get much closer in a shorter period of time.
